Is it just us or have drugstore brands been killin’ it lately? These major beauty brands have definitely stepped up their game in the past few years. Not only have these major brands like L’Oreal and Maybelline really improved their line, but NEW lines like NYX have been popping up with intense pigments and unique product inventions. This influx of drugstore beauty brands stepping up their game has caused every player to really improve and think outside the box with their product offerings(Think Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics lip tars) and quite frankly, we LOVE it.
I’m talking strictly about products offered living up to what they promise here. We all know that major beauty brands could use some serious improvement to become cruelty-free and more natural. Take a look at Makeup Maven Phyrra’s blog and EWG Cosmetic Database to learn more about cruelty-free & non-toxic products.
There is literally no excuse to not have a cabinet full of products you love that actually work. So let us steer you through the drugstore beauty aisle to make educated beauty choices.
L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stain ($9.99) – A beauty blogger favorite that rivals the super pricey YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain. These stains apply wet and then dry leaving nothing but a beautiful stain behind.
Makeup Maven Jane swatched the entire line complete with Looks! Check it out on her blog & in Looks on the PRIMP app.
L’Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation ($12.95) – A personal favorite of Hayden’s. This is a great choice if you’re looking for a little more coverage than say a BB cream or tinted moisturizer. It goes on smooth, doesn’t dry out skin, and gives a soft even finish.
L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows ($7.95) – Power Primper, Jenny Sue is a huge fan of these shadows – “They are all wonderful and are true to their stay put mantra.” Not only do they stay put, they also have great color payoff. Power Primper Bailey, uses these shades in her Golden Emerald video. Check it out here!
Maybelline ColorSensational Vivids Lip Color ($7.49) – Another favorite of Hayden’s…she loves it so much she wrote an entire blog on it. It’s the perfect, creamy color that gives a long lasting bold lip. Bright lips are in so test out the trend without breaking the bank. Hayden’s favs are Vivid Rose and On Fire Red.
Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush – ($7.99) – Another Maybelline fav, these blushes are the perfect go-to for soft, girlie sweet cheeks. The texture gives an amazingly real flush to the apples of your cheeks and the packaging makes it a great pocketbook companion when you’re face gets a little ghoulish from the long work day. And c’mon, who does like dreams and bouncy things?
Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer ($3.99) - With a full array of bold & bright to sassy & dark colors, these nail lacquers are an excellent buy. WARNING: given their bargain price and massive color selection, you may want to drag your arm across the store counter shoving every single one into your cart.
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain ($8.99) – A cheaper alternative to the Tarte Lipsurgence Stains(although, nothing really compare to them because they are amazzzzing). These non-drying stains apply easily with no glossiness or stickiness – just pure color.
E.L.F. Cream Eyeliner ($3.00) - For only 3 bucks, these are pretty dang good. I would recommend using a different brush(one that won’t break after a few uses) and keep the lid on tight so it doesn’t dry out. Overall, we found that the color is pretty pigmented and lasts through the whole day. We like!
NYX Liquid Crystal Liner ($4.49) – We like these glitter liners for a night out or special event (like New Years). They have a small brush so it’s very easy to apply along the lash line. There was barely any fall-out and they stayed shimmery all night long. Now everyone can have that little twinkle
in on their eye
Real Techniques Brushes
Real Techniques Brushes ($5-$25) - Brushes can easily cost A LOT of money. Most high-end brushes will run you about $25 EACH. With the selection and brush quality, you won’t be disappointed with these brushes that are made out of Taklon which are ultra plush, soft, and synthetic(which means the lines is cruelty-free!) The line was designed by an actual makeup artist, blogger, vlogger, etc. so she knows what she is talking about.
